Updated 1-24

In the beginning of the pandemic (which isn't over), when I couldn't attend my annual sci fi convention Arisia, I put together my own Film programme, which I present every year at this time, I've checked all the links, repaired some, and have added a few items.

All the films are online and free to watch, classic convention shorts, (plus some I think perhaps should be), some going as far back as the 1890s, followed by a pretty interesting mix of international sci fi films Please feel free to add your own suggestions in comments, with links if possible, thank you and enjoy the show!

Following it is a list with links to some feature length films I'm considering watching this weekend, many of which I've never seen, but looked interesting, check them out! It's amazing how much is available to view on uToob for free. Run times (film lengths, in your Earth "hours and minutes") included.

My youtube Arisia suggested short films playlist, there are 46 items currently:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLNShbHfg_l_nqXZnahqANNUSp3rBF4oAB

Notes on the playlist: After almost finishing editing this, having checked every link I realised it was a mistake to leave off the seconds, from the run time listings (ie: 1:30:27) because now if you look at the run times of the short films, and the long films, it looks like they're either a minute and a half, or an hour and a half, so, sorry about that, but if it's in the first part, which is short films, you can assume it's minutes and seconds, and if it's a feature film, hours and minutes, sorry about that.

Closet cases of the nerd kind, 12:40 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEkW4es9okU

parody of CE3K, I haven't eaten mashed potatoes without sculpting them into Devil's Tower, Wyoming, once, since seeing this film in 1980, and anyone who knows me knows that I'm not remotely kidding about this.

Hardware Wars, 13:21 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYOSZwe8Ibk the first spoof of Star wars, and G. Lucas's favourite one, rightly so, a timeless classic. you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll kiss three bucks goodbye!

Gravity 8:48 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cipo4iwVU-g not the feature film of a few years ago, but the classic, and partly animated, and not safe for work, short "science documentary".

Animato 2:56 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Brj3vX2Hiuk one of genius Mike Jittlov's early animated works

The Wizard of Speed and Time (short) 3:01 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoLhLn9hVkE

the original short which became a feature film (link to that elsewhere in this post) if there's only one film in this list you watch, it should be THIS one.

This ends the traditional part of the list on youtube, so I'll interrupt at this point to include an extra recommended film not on youtube but still an Arisia classic: Duck Dodgers in the 24th and a half century! (7 min): oh good it's still up there! https://vimeo.com/76668594

Waking Life - Bridge Scene 3:00 an excerpt featuring Speed Levitch, from one of my favourite films, Waking life, an experimental animated film, in which a young man finds himself waking up from one dream, only to find he is still dreaming, no car chases or explosions, despite the terrible misleading trailer, no naughty business, mostly philosophy, fascinating film, with a gorgeous soundtrack by Tosga Tango. watch the whole film, I implore you. Irish as a 2nd language, 2:47 another clip from Nesmith's Elephant Parts, ok this isn't even science fiction, but it's hilarious and short, and one of those things you really should see. costars the other guy from Bill and Ted. so that's SF-related, right? Certain videos on youtube can't be included on playlists if they are designated as kid-friendly, for some reason, here are 2:

Lucas the spider short: musical spider 0:32 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGEY8IulWiA

Even arachnophobes will love Lucas the adorable CGI spider, voiced by a young relative of the animator.

Rodanne, 0:49 Mike Nesmith's surreal hilarious spoof of his own song Joanne, and, no, no spoilers, -from his groundbreaking television show Elephant parts. it's less than a minute, watch it! Did you know Mike invented MTV? He did. Also his mum invented Liquid paper. (RIP Mike) new link, old video was made private. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8Yg2Y2y_dU

We hope you enjoyed the show!

*** And now our Feature Presentations! ***********************************

Hope you have popcorn, I do.

Suggested features:

Allegro Non Troppo, 1976 Italian animated parody of Fantasia, a spoof, but quite poignant at times, and just as entertaining, if not moreso. updated new link. No subtitles, which is ok because there's almost no dialogue, but a joke at the start is lost when the director introduces it as a fantasy, fanta-sia in Italian, and the subtitles say of course, Fantasia, lol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJ_Rpqmn4T8 1:24

Wizard of speed & time full length feature 1:37:01 Mike Jittlov's masterful meta-film, about the making of itself, in which the evil producer was sort of tricked into playing the evil producer. If I have that right. Magical and brilliant, "you mean I can't join unless I'm already a member? -Exactly!" One of those films everyone should see.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5a_00YVVkQ

The Lathe of Heaven, by Ursula K. LeGuin, based on her novel, and hewing closely to it, made with her blessing oversight and approval for PBS in 1980 on a shoestring budget, my personal favourite film of all time, it's about a man who's dreams come true, literally, which becomes problematic when he dreams about things like alien invasions. Highly recommended. (there was a remake done in 2002 about which I've heard nothing good, alas). edit, see further down, but uh, don't see that film, holy cats. really.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8VRbaVNvSA

Dark Star 1974 1:22 John Carpenter, low budget early Sci fi work, sort of like Alien, but funny, also thought-provoking. ok the old link was killed, this one says free with ads, not sure if my ad blocker will work on it, seems to work on everything else on utoob despite their efforts. :3

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPrexubQOJg

Battle beyond the stars 1980 1:39 John Boy Walton is Luke Starbucker or something. John Saxon is yet another bad guy. A cheesy classic but with some very cool stuff in, actually.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnvhVZOHDX8

ah the 80's. at one point, 2 bad guys spying on the planet they're left behind to guard somehow, while for no understandable reason the bad guy's main ship pops off for a few days after informing the people he'll be back to take over, teleport a woman on board with intent of sexually assaulting her, which it's unclear how far they get in doing, before their ship is blown up, with her on board, no one mourns her. other than that the film was still entertaining, despite it's often creaky old script.

the Martian Chronicles tv miniseries Made for NBC based on Ray Bradbury's book. the special effects are a little dated, but there are some profound moments in this production.

Other films I am planning to watch over the Arisia weekend:

CE3K (I own on dvd) Spielberg's best film, 1977.

I hardly ever watch videos or television, even though I have a ton of stuff on VHS, a bunch on dvd and my household has netflicks and amazong prime, and a pretty decent telly. Maybe it's time I looked into that thing. nah. too busy working on my comic book, Punk rock alien space girl adventures. ask for it by name, read it free online, buy it later when the guilt sets in. (end of spam.)

Moon, Directed by Duncan Jones (David Bowie's son), an astronaut living alone on the moon for a 3 year mining stint, his job nearly done, he starts to wonder if he's losing his mind. (no spoilers!) Brilliant low budget film. Owes a lot to 2001, but if you liked that, you should appreciate this.

(note, an actor, Kevin Spacey, who has been "cancelled" did a voice performance in this film, as a robot, but don't let that ruin your enjoyment of this incredible film, lots of people worked hard on it, and said actor was offered the part, turned it down initially, so someone else played the part, once filming was complete and he saw it however, he realised it was great and overdubbed the part, the other actors were not working with him. ) here's the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0tKKsgip-Y

More youtube finds

Ship of Monsters, 1960, Mexican 1:22:57 I've never seen this, it's been on my to-watch list for some time, years probably, the sort of weird thing that might show up on Arisia film programme at some point, probably at 3am. The Ship of Monsters (Spanish: La nave de los monstruos) is a 1960 Mexican comic science fiction film.

Plot: Two Venusian women, Gamma (Lepe) and Beta (Velázquez), are sent on a mission by their queen (Consuelo Frank) to search for males to repopulate the planet. Along the way, they and their servant, Tor the robot, acquire a colorful array of male extraterrestrial creatures in their "ship of monsters", including Martian prince Tagual, Uk the cyclops, Utirr the spider and skeletal Zok. Landing in Mexico, Gamma and Beta become enamored with singing cowboy Lauriano https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CB2THkkKigU

Aelita queen of Mars, 1924 1:51:07 another on my to-watch list for years. Black and white Russian film, Masterpiece of early cinematograph, first Soviet avant sci-fi movie “Aelita: Queen of Mars” directed by Yakov Protazanov in 1924. Based on Alexei Tolstoy's novel of the same name. Nikolai Tseretelli and Valentina Kuindzhi were cast in leading roles.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZ-9JUELJhg

Night of the Comet, 1984 1:35:11 I remember thinking this was great, lets see if it still is, I like this comment: mantra3000: "Back then movies looked dumb but had very clever writing, today it's exactly the opposite." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=me4pOQOt20s

Flash Gordon (1936) Space Soldiers - Serial Marathon Chapters 1 - 13 3:52:12 I haven't really seen much of this, and feel I ought to. 4 hours? well, I'll give it a go. Flash Gordon, Dale Arden and Dr. Alexis Zarkov visit the planet Mongo to thwart the evil schemes of Emperor Ming the Merciless, who has set his planet on a collision course with Earth. old link is dead, but here's a new playlist https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLpagE74pQ4IWt2sIeb0iUA-XgcajCC-ka 13 chapters, averaging 20 minutes a piece. I started to watch this, need to finish it.

Mars Needs Woman 1:22:09 made for tv 1967 Yvonne "Batgirl" Craig another on my to-watch list that I haven't seen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCZazaWHh3g

Invaders from Mars 1986 version 1:39:24 This one I've seen, and recall it was cheesy, and not that great, but for some reason want to revisit.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rw2vgsTC8rQ

UFOs The True Story of Flying Saucers 1956 1:30:03 I haven't seen this, but I have seen lots of UFOS, looks interesting.

Enjoy this drama-documentary, based on the experiences of Al Chop, a reporter who served as press liaison for the Pentagon during its investigation of UFO's from 1947 to the early 1950s.

Miller, Soule, and Tremayne provide the voices for the narrated portions of the film. Although the movie contains only two brief film clips to serve as photographic evidence of UFO's, the producers build a good case based on the credibility of certain UFO witnesses (airline pilots, military personnel, radar operators, etc.).

On a more subtle level, director Winston Jones pulls off a clever trick; he begins the film as a pure documentary, but he gradually modifies this approach and focuses on reporter Al Chop's personal involvement in the UFO investigation. Chop slowly changes from UFO skeptic to UFO believer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bGTLtdwPHM

Star Pilot 1:20:46 this looks cheesy. Aliens from the constellation Hydra crash-land on the island of Sardinia. A prominent scientist, his daughter, several young technicians, and a pair of Oriental spies are taken hostage by the beings so they can use them to repair their spaceship's broken engine. With that done, they take off towards their home planet, taking the earthlings with them. However, the humans attempt to mutiny against their captors, inadvertently sending their tiny spaceship hurtling into the infinite beyond... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAvllP_YEdU

Invaders from space/Starman 1:17 Japanese, b&w A bunch of pernicious salamander men from the planet Kulimon in the Moffit Galaxy plan on taking over Earth by unleashing a lethal plague on mankind. It's up to valiant superhero Starman from the Emerald Planet to save the human race before it's too late. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjgvl3u6Um8

Star Odyssey 1:43 "Italian Star Wars rip-off by Alfonso Brescia. This movie always cures my insomnia. Supposedly there are two reels that are mixed up. You won't notice" XD

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCowIGE8JmM

Starship invasions 1977 1:28 Christopher Lee, Robert Vaughn. I wanted to see this when it came out finally watched it recently, cheesy, but some interesting bits. mileage may vary. Christopher Lee is pretty brutal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QESnwxRUxyw

Message from Space 1:46 I always wanted to see this, having seen the preview for it in 78. seems super cheesy.

In this Japanese Star Wars take-off, the peaceful planet of Jillucia has been nearly wiped out by the Gavanas, whose leader takes orders from his mother (played a comic actor in drag) rather than the Emperor. King Kaiba sends out eight Liabe holy seeds, each to be received by a chosen one to defend the Gavanas. Each recipient, ranging from hardened General Garuda to Gavana Prince Hans to young Terrans Meia, Kido, and Aaron all have different reactions to being chosen.

If you want to have fun, just watch this, one of the funniest and craziest movies i have ever watched, people say that resemble first star wars but it is movie for itself, if you are a fan of Retro Sci-Fi, Space Opera and cheesy strange movies, this is for you.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEmGbpgRzNE

Space Trucker Bruce 1:26 A funny low budget space adventure Has been compared to Dark Star and Red Dwarf https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcOaAqGBWLo

My Science Project 1985 1:34 cheesy 80s film I vaguely remember thinking wasn't that great but probably had some neat stuff in and a cute girl. I was a teenager ok? been wanting to rewatch for some time, but not that much. definitely not as much as Night of the comet. maybe this year.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGgUwTvAYkY

A Dream Come True (1963) Russian with English subtitled 1:02 (Mechte Navstrechu) is a Soviet science fiction film directed by Otar Koberidze and Michael Karyuk. It's based on the novel 'Heart of the Universe' by Olesya Berdnik. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQyK62liJ-M

Solaris 1968 2:22 I have the recent remake, which I thought was ok, always wanted to see the original, here it is English subtitles included. I'm a big fan of the writer, Stanislaw Lem. if you've never read his works, and like Douglas Adams, read the Cyberiad, and Tales of Pirx the Pilot, humous sci fi lots of people assumed incorrectly Adams was influenced by. He also wrote serious stuff, worth reading. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1tnAyARsmA

The Twonky.

I thought this was a Twilight zone episode, I recall it was an old Henry Kuttner story originally. 1:09 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMIo5Yv0YgI

More I'm considering, some I own, some I have to track down:

2001 arguably the greatest film of all time.

2010 (found on youtube, with ads, link further down the list)

Explorers

ah, here it is chopped into a playlist, looks complete, 104 minutes or so https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLCOn5yZBxqS3d0f9hazu_Er1ecKhCouaI

an uneven film that starts really promising but has a weak ending, still some very charming stuff, young kids in the 80s build a working spaceship.

the Last Starfighter if you've never seen it, here's the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZujpF9VRMbg you can rent or buy it on youtube apparently. I have it on VHS. :p

Cocoon, another classic, here's the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vccqE-mYiwU maybe I should put together a trailer playlist.

Flight of the navigator. Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gr5kV7GioUE a young lad finds himself flying a spaceship, voiced by Paul Ruebens. (RIP) charming 80s kids film.

Barbarella 1968 Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ks5eE-lTFDw Jane Fonda as a ...space agent tasked with finding a missing scientist that the band Duran Duran took their name from, based on the comic book by Jean Claude Forest, very sexy very cheesy film. rather kinky too.

Fantastic planet (La Planet Suavage) 1973 French animated film in which humans are primitive and live on a planet of giant aliens who view them the way we view rats, some people think they make cute pets but not most people... Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgCxCZNkQ9E

Ice pirates Funny sci fi adventure starring the late Robert Urich, I have a hazy memory of having seen this and loving it but can only recall one scene, which I'm sure no man will ever forget, lol. here's the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-YZ8WOU1-w all these are available to rent on youtube btw.

The boy who could fly. Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SSdYWNn_5E ok not a great trailer, but I remember this as a charming film about a probably autistic lad, could he really fly? you want me to spoil it for you? no, I won't.

Brewster McCloud. 1970 speaking of flying boys, I saw this long ago another I barely remember but liked, might be a bit naughty. it's got Shelly Duval in. not really sci fi. why is it here? well, Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0kp4QfNlF8

a Boy and his dog, based on a Harlan Ellison story, I heard recently he didn't like the end of this film, it's a pretty brutal post apocalyptic tale of a man traveling the wasteland with his psychic dog who he can communicate with. I haven't seen it since the early 80s and barely remember it but I liked it at the time, I know it's controversial, and probably super sexist. 1:26 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBfWS0BniJE stars a young Don Johnson.

trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eM7MCPF36xM ok now I'm starting to remember, yeah, women, not treated too well in this, to put it mildly, ok, men probably not either, but women especially. content warning: SA I think.

Starman Jeff Bridges plays an alien who uh, comes to earth and hooks up with a hot Earth woman. but it's a great film, really! an 80s classic, much beloved. 1984 trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOMyCjQzk4w

More I've never seen but have been meaning to:

Ink (Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBGeErufQdY ) interesting looking indy film from 2008 very surreal. man I need to see this.

Wall-e is that any good? I heard it was.

The Navigator: A Medieval Odyssey Original Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGMVw-ptbTY

Zero Theorem. Terry Gilliam. my favourite director, why haven't I seen this yet? Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEvA_87krBA

the not well considered Lathe of heaven remake from 2002: I suppose I should watch and see how bad it really is, maybe it'll make me love the original even more than I do! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbqxEtNx-VU OH BOY I watched it. Don't watch it. holy cow what a misguided disaster. good actors, but terrible script and direction, "ok, no one emote, ok? great, and inaction!" -Why they thought they knew better than Ursula K. LeGuin how to tell her story, I can't imagine, but they tried to cram as much pointless awkward sex into this as they could. ok it did give me an even greater appreciation for my favourite live action film. Watch the original instead, the link is up higher in this list, please don't waste time on this, Zarquon almighty, not even "so bad it's good" I don't think MST3K could make this bearable. they probably could tho.

Cosmic Voyage (1936) Kosmicheskiy reys: Fantasticheskaya novella (known in English as Cosmic Voyage and The Space Voyage) is a 1936 Soviet science fiction film produced by Mosfilm. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71HgQ0JNE7E

Rock'n'Rule, Canadian animated sci fi film from the early 80s, criminally neglected masterpiece. Music by Blondie, Cheap trick and Iggy Pop.

2024 additions:

the problem with youtube is, you watch something, and off to the side they recommend things that look related and interesting and then it's 3am. @_@ but that's probably how I found a lot of the older curiousities on this list. Anyway that's what happened whilst I was checking for bad links, so here's more:

The Brother from another planet 1984 1:48 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXVLozNYJAc&list=PL2gsu7VGzgdab9LsjsyqpseqaKefjzFvQ&index=3&pp=iAQB

a black man from outer space lands on earth with hilarious consequences. no, but yes, I mean, holy cow I can't believe this is on youtube, a totally brilliant film. you gotta see this one. Humour, social commentary, great acting.

Metropolis, 3 hour version, not colourised, although there's one of those on the utoobz, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmscbGV-dEY

lotte reiniger_ the adventures of prince achmed (1926) This is part of Arisia 2024's official film schedule, but if you miss it there, you can watch it here any time, the oldest animated feature film: https://vimeo.com/454688902 1:05

also at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92KFRJLhi_E 1:06

trailer/mini-featurette: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LXeq4IhVnM

First spaceship on Venus (1960) Based on Stanislaw Lem's novel "the Astronauts" I love Lem, one of my favourite authors, if like Douglas Adams you should read Lem's Cyberiad and tales of Pirx the pilot. based on the description on youtube and the comments I will definitely be checking this out! 1:18 wait I think I saw this one. maybe on MST3K? :3 yes, that's right, hey there's a person of colour in it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXe-fv-K24k

2010: the Year we make contact (Free with ads) 1:55 The sequel to 2001, some people don't like it but they're wrong, it's great. It knew better than to try and be another 2001, so the pacing and entire approach to filmmaking is far more traditional than the most groundbreaking film of all time was, but the story is very satisfying and Roy Scheider deserved some kind of award for that one scene where he has to react to something I won't spoil for you, what an actor!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nNiUBVwF-o

Arrival (free with ads, I really don't like ads, but I do want to check this out. 1:56 all I know about this is what I gleaned from the trailer, mysterious aliens land, a linguist has to help the government figure out how to communicate with them, and I heard it was great.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwXYXVDmo5Q

Earth vs. the Flying Saucers (1956) 1:23 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6RetGo9U_o black and white invasion film, I can't remember if I've seen. do you remember if I saw this one?

Devil Girl from Mars (1954) 1:16 Invasion from Outer Space!...Sights too weird to imagine! Destruction too monstrous to escape! An uptight, leather-clad female alien, armed with a ray gun and accompanied by a menacing robot, comes to Earth to collect Earth's men as breeding stock.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXMm8TclN6Y

The Venusian / Stranger from Venus 1954 with subtitles 1:14 Stranger from Venus (a.k.a. Immediate Disaster and The c) is the story of a woman who meets a stranger with no pulse who has the power of life and death at his touch. He is here from Venus to warn Earth about the atom. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37mOfRt9-UY

Things to come (1936, H.G. Wells) 1:35 The story of a century: a decades-long second World War leaves plague and anarchy, then a rational state rebuilds civilization and attempts space travel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knOd-BhRuCE

The Cosmic man 1959 colourised 1:13 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjSAUzPH_kU

Invisible X-Ray Horror, here to spy on the Earth! A spherical UFO proves to contain one alien visitor. How to deal with him? Investigators disagree... Stars: John Carradine.

The Wizard of Mars (1965) aka Horrors Of The Planet. Four space travellers encounter a sinister force on Mars that threatens to stifle all life forms within its reach. (oh man I hate being stifled!) starring L Frank Baum? ok, not that one though.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUT3RIDqNkc

The Day the Sky Exploded (Sci-Fi, 1958) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5-ddFsICpQ

1:20. Scientists discover that a group of meteors are hurtling on a collision course with Earth, and if they hit, the planet will be destroyed. best comment: @PointyTailofSatan 7 months ago: "No actual science was harmed in the making of this movie." XD

boy this channel has a ton of intriguing stuff! https://www.youtube.com/@CultCinemaClassics/playlists

like this one: Cult Alien Movies: some from the 50s, some from the 80s. some real gems, and some hilarious stinkers. includes Mars needs women, 1968 with Yvonne Batgirl Craig.

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2gsu7VGzgdab9LsjsyqpseqaKefjzFvQ

and this one, sci fi classics full length movies includes the timeless classic "Attack of the giant leeches" from 1959. ok I'd never actually heard of that, but with a name like that it must be a classic. Also Plan 9, and Teenagers from outer space. Radar men from the moon, aww and Santa Claus conquers the Martians! holy freeow, 135 films on that list. some of them are on my list already.

that oughtta keep you busy! and now a review.

Logan's run -rewatched this recently on DVD, along with Silent Running.

11-12-23, I did something rare last night, and set aside time to watch a film, a DVD, that's right, 20th century technology, borrowed from TS Hart -much obliged, Logan's run, the last big budget hollywood Sci Fi film before Star Wars, and it shows. I saw this in the cinema when it was released. The sets looked great albeit, they look like it was shot in a mall, which it was, the miniature city, a lot of work went into it, but the scale of the ripples in the water in the dishpan, I mean, lake, kind of spoiled the illusion, but one forgives. the acting, mostly ok, Jenny Agutter, utterly charming, carries the film for my naughty old heart, now let's talk about the ending, spoiler alert. the plot of the film is in the future, after some global catastrophe, most humans live in a domed city, blissfully unaware of the nature of reality, they're told at 30 to report to Carousel where they'll be reincarnated, "renewed" but in fact of course, they're just murdered, because there's only so much room. some people suspect it's a sham and try to flee on their 30th birthday, when the Sandmen, (cops, but they put people to sleep, get it?) hunt them down. Logan is one of those Sandmen, assigned in secret to find Sanctuary, a place where runners run to, and destroy it. enlisting the aid of the hottest chick in town, he finds a robot under the city, tasked with freezing fish and plankton to make food for the city, but when they ran out, he started freezing runners, this is a point one might miss if one was young or not paying attention, escaping the robot, our pair find an old man living alone in Washington DC, alone with cats, he's living on walnuts as far as we can tell, somehow. They take him back to the city to show everyone there, reality, we can grow old, and that renewal thing, a sham. the old man can't get in to the domed city the way our heroes do, although they take their lives in their hands diving into a pool, and hoping they'll not drown as they find a way in, which against all odds they somehow do. captured by the cops after trying to tell the populace the truth, the computer that runs everything interrogates Logan, who tells him there is no Sanctuary, just an old man outside the city. The computer cannot cope with his answers, and therefore explodes, causing a chain reaction which destroys much of the city, sure, that makes sense. somehow most of the people escape and meet the old man, and everyone smiles. the end. Really, it was mostly ok, and not terrible, until the interrogation scene, they really did not sell that.

Silent running: that one held up pretty darn well. The Joan Baez music I could frankly have done without, nothing against her, but it didn't work for me in context.

I have noticed sometimes someone faves one of my works, when I got to look at their account, I see that in the 10 minutes since they faved my work, they managed to fave several pages worth, sometimes hundreds of other deviations here. You're not really paying anyone a compliment by faving their work if it's going to be buried so fast, no one looking through your faves has any chance of seeing it. I assume you're trying to get people to look at your gallery. If you are just a collector of faves, and not an artist who posts here, that's fine, and I appreciate that you liked my work enough to bookmark it, even if you never look at it again, which you probably won't. But please don't just fave random things in hopes of getting people to check out your work. also I appreciate the Llama badges but I don't really know how to return that favour, and don't really have time, sorry. I'd be happier with a comment on some of my art, or my gallery, thanks.

keep making art.

in other news I have an instagram now for my comic book. instagram.com/prasgacomic, as well as its faceboot page, facebook.com/prasgacomic, please follow there for more news, especially on fb, insta doesn't make it easy to post a lot of text. I really loathe it, but it's where the kids are these days. d:
